Dr. Wilber’s 10 Most Asked Questions
1. What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the treatment designed to remove subluxations (misalignments) of the spinal bones (vertebra).
2. Why are misalignments of the spine so important?
Subluxated vertebra lead to disc injuries such as bulges, herniations, and tears. Subluxated vertebra cause arthritis, spurs, degeneration, and early deterioration of the spine. Subluxations also pinch nerves and cause spinal cord pressure which can lead to pain, dysfunction, organ problems, and disease.
3. How do Chiropractors remove subluxations?
Through spinal adjustments. The word Chiropractic literally means done by hand. The Chiropractor moves the bones by hand.
4. Does getting a Chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most practice members love getting adjusted. Getting adjusted usually feels fantastic. Most practice members report a feeling of looseness, relaxation, and less stress after adjustments. You must understand, however, that if you see the Chiropractor and you are suffering from a severely pinched nerve and are in excruciating pain to begin with the first few adjustments may be uncomfortable. On the whole Chiropractic adjustments are safe, effective, and feel good.
5. Who can & should receive adjustments and at what age can they start?
Although most of our new practice members are in pain, everyone should receive Chiropractic adjustments on some type of regular schedule. Once a practice member’s spinal problem is resolved they should see the Chiropractor throughout their life to keep their spine healthy. We have adjusted practice members from 2 days old to 90 years old.
6. How many times do I have to come?
Each practice member is unique on every level; therefore it is virtually impossible for us to know exactly how many adjustments you will need to hit each of your health goals. However, one truth we do know is that your goals and expectations have 100% to do with the number of times you visit us.
7. Is Chiropractic care expensive?
No. Although the word expensive means different things to different people, Chiropractic care is one of the least expensive forms of health care. In fact, we believe that if more people saw Chiropractors, national health care costs would decrease because on the whole people would be much healthier.
8. How long will it take to get adjusted?
Even the busiest practice members commit to making Chiropractic care a priority in their lives. Your adjustment will take 3-5 minutes. If you want to schedule extra time one-on-one with the doctor to talk about a particular issue, just ask and we will schedule appropriately.
9. What if I feel fine; do I need to keep coming back?
That is always up to you. However, it has been our experience that those who stop care because they are “feeling fine” return with the same problem, only it’s usually worse. On the other hand, those who commit to regular care find their problem rarely returns. They also enjoy a higher quality of life and health.
